Christmas in New York City: Lights, Markets & Holiday Events

Arts & Culture
Activities

New York leans into Christmas more than almost any other city, with a lit tree at Rockefeller Center, ice skating in Bryant Park and holiday windows along Fifth Avenue that draw crowds from Thanksgiving through New Year’s.

Romer Hell’s Kitchen sits close to most of Midtown’s headline Christmas attractions, with the neighborhood’s own restaurants, bars and live entertainment giving you somewhere to return to once the crowds along Fifth Avenue thin out. Here is what to see for Christmas in New York City this year.

See the Christmas Tree at Rockefeller Center

The Rockefeller Center Christmas Tree is one of the most photographed sights in New York, returning to 30 Rockefeller Plaza every winter and traditionally lit in a televised ceremony in late November or early December.

The tree stays up through early January, with the plaza open for viewing well beyond the lighting ceremony itself. Early mornings and weekdays are a calmer alternative to the busy evening crowds.

  • Address: 30 Rockefeller Plaza, New York, NY 10112
  • Hours: Viewable daily; the exact 2026 lighting date and evening viewing hours are announced by Rockefeller Center closer to the holidays
  • Getting there from Romer: Walk east on West 52nd Street to Sixth Avenue, then south to West 49th Street. Allow around 15 minutes.
  • Good to know: Security checkpoints go up around the plaza during peak December evenings, which can slow down access at street level.

Skate and Shop at Bryant Park’s Winter Village

Bryant Park turns into the Winter Village each winter, with a free ice-skating rink at its center surrounded by holiday shops and kiosks from local and international makers.

This year’s season runs from October 28, 2026 through February 28, 2027, with the holiday shops open through early January. Skating is free, though skate rentals and lessons carry their own charge.

  • Address: Bryant Park, 40 West 40th Street
  • Hours: Daily, 8:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m. (extended to 8:00 a.m. to midnight from November 19 through January 3); holiday shop hours vary slightly
  • Getting there from Romer: Walk south to West 42nd Street and east to Sixth Avenue. Allow around 18 minutes, or take the subway from 50th Street to the Bryant Park station at 42nd Street.
  • Good to know: The rink can reach capacity on weekend evenings, so arriving earlier in the day generally means a shorter wait.

Plan your visit to Bryant Park’s Winter Village.

Catch the Christmas Spectacular at Radio City Music Hall

The Christmas Spectacular Starring the Radio City Rockettes returns to Radio City Music Hall on November 4, 2026, with an expanded show built around ten Rockettes numbers across the season’s run of performances.

It is one of the few Christmas traditions in New York that runs for the entire season rather than a single event, which makes it easy to fit around a Broadway show or a day of sightseeing.

  • Address: 1260 Avenue of the Americas, New York, NY 10020
  • Hours: Performances run from November 4, 2026 through early January; showtimes vary by date
  • Getting there from Romer: Walk east on West 51st Street to Sixth Avenue. The theater is approximately a ten-minute walk from the hotel.
  • Good to know: Popular showtimes sell out well ahead of December, so booking in advance is recommended, especially for weekend performances.

Browse the Holiday Windows and Markets Beyond Bryant Park

Department store windows along Fifth Avenue turn into elaborate holiday displays every winter, best seen in the evening once the storefronts are lit. Union Square and Columbus Circle add their own holiday markets to the mix, alongside Bryant Park’s.

None of it requires a ticket. Pair an evening walk down Fifth Avenue with a stop at one of the holiday markets for gifts, food stalls and mulled wine.

  • Address: Fifth Avenue, roughly between West 49th and West 57th Streets
  • Hours: Window displays are visible whenever stores are open, and after closing once storefronts remain lit; market hours vary by location
  • Getting there from Romer: Walk east on West 52nd or West 57th Street to Fifth Avenue. Allow 15 to 20 minutes.
  • Good to know: Sidewalks along Fifth Avenue get crowded on weekend evenings in December, so allow extra time for a slow, stop-and-start walk.

Warm Up with Dinner at a Hell’s Kitchen Original

After a cold evening on Fifth Avenue or in Bryant Park, The Landmark Tavern has been serving Hell’s Kitchen since 1868, with a dark-wood dining room that suits a winter meal.

The kitchen serves straightforward tavern dishes rather than a dedicated holiday menu, but the atmosphere alone makes it a good match for a December dinner.

  • Address: 626 Eleventh Avenue at West 46th Street
  • Hours: Kitchen daily, noon to 10:00 p.m.; bar daily, noon to midnight
  • Getting there from Romer: Walk south and west through Hell’s Kitchen for approximately 15 to 18 minutes.
  • Good to know: The tavern can get busy on weekend evenings during the holidays, so reserve ahead if you are visiting with a group.

End the Night at So & So’s

Romer Hell’s Kitchen’s own piano bar and supper club keeps its nightly entertainment running straight through the holidays, tucked behind the hotel’s blue door on West 52nd Street.

It is an easy way to close out a day of sightseeing, with live music, cocktails and a menu built for lingering rather than rushing off to the next attraction.

  • Address: Romer Hell’s Kitchen, 851 Eighth Avenue, with the entrance just off West 52nd Street
  • Hours: Service and performance times vary. Check the current lineup and reservation availability.
  • Getting there from Romer: It is inside the hotel, so your room is only a short elevator ride away.
  • Good to know: Reservations are recommended, particularly on weekend nights throughout December.
