Every Romer designs a unique Love Thy Neighborhood program with a series of activities, initiatives and community partnerships that make a difference to our neighbors.
At Romer House, we partner with local organizations, artists, and businesses to create meaningful opportunities for our guests to connect with and give back to Waikīkī. Whether it's supporting the Waikīkī Community Center, participating in our Genki Ball Bar for Ala Wai Canal restoration, or joining our monthly Park Clean-Up Pau Hana, we make it easy to get involved.
The Waikīkī Community Center has operated in Waikīkī since 1978, helping support keiki (kids), kupuna (honored elders), and the community as one ʻohana (family). Left something behind and don't need it back? Our unclaimed lost and found is donated to the Center to help our neighbors in need.
The Genki Ala Wai Project is a community initiative to restore the ecosystem of the Ala Wai Canal, which neighbors the hotel, through the deployment of Genki balls. The Genki balls made for this project are mud balls that contain Effective Microorganisms®, which sink to the bottom of the canal to digest the sludge and act as a “probiotic” for the environment. Romer House Waikiki and the International Market Place recently hosted an event in which we worked with our guests and neighbors to make and deploy over 5,000 Genki Balls — a brighter Ala Wai is just around the corner.
We’re proud of our neighborhood. That’s why Romer House has partnered with the City of Honolulu to adopt King Kalākaua Park, at the gateway to Waikīkī. Inspired by King Kalākaua’s legacy, we’re committed to preserving and enhancing this space for the community, and host a park clean-up on the second Thursday of the month. It's a great way for guests and locals to come together, give back, and connect with the heart of Waikīkī (plus enjoy a fun little Pau Hana refreshment together afterward). It’s just one of the ways we’re helping to nurture the neighborhood we call home.
